As a Regional Manager at Earls Restaurants I committed 30 Years to helping build their culture and expand the Calgary Region.  Countless times I witnessed where a culture of engagement, and strategic planning led to improved financial rewards. Over the last 4 years in a completely different construction business I have tested these concepts and have found similar successes. 

 

It is interesting how engagement works. Fist as a Leader, your own personal engagement directly correlates to your team’s engagement. And you must accept, at the same time, that your team members have a choice whether to be engaged or not. You can’t demand their engagement. You must continuously work on your own engagement and create an environment where your people are more likely to chose to be become engaged.  

 

If you and your team are interested in extraordinary results, invest in regular Lunch and Learns or Engagement Seminars.  Strategic Planning must go hand in hand with creating an engaging workplace.  Benjamin Franklin and many other great Leaders have been quoted with,”Failing to plan is planning to fail”. Without the planning basics your engagement strategies will fall flat.

Culture is well stated by the author Shawn Parr. “A strong culture flourishes with a clear set of values and norms that actively guide the way an organization operates”.  The building blocks to a strong culture include: Dynamic and Engaged leadership; Living Values; Responsibility and accountability; Celebrate success and failure. 

 

I offer facilitation of regular Lunch & Learn sessions where we explore, define, train and develop the building blocks to a strong culture. These are fun high impact 30-45 minute sessions where I engage your team and we: 

  • Breath life into your values by connecting and aligning to them.
  • Engage in learning about “Your Best Self” concepts. These are fundamental to Dynamic and Engaged Leadership, and Responsibility and Accountability.
  • Check in on your metrics and Key Performance  Indicators to Celebrate Success and Failures. Failure is a gift and opportunity to commit to future improvement.

After being part of Earls Restaurants for 30 years and the last 4 years in the construction business with Sarina Homes, I have practiced and developed an expert knowledge of culture and leadership. Those that know me, know these three things about me. I Believe in People, I Live in Possibility and I Thrive in Performance.

My leadership experience started in my youth. Being blessed with athletic ability, I played on many successful sports teams.  In sports I discovered: Being part of a Team, Love of Practice; Pride in doing my Best; and Patience in the pursuit of Perfection.

At 19 years of age, I found my way into the restaurant business and I excelled.  My experiences in sports were easily transferable. I was quickly promoted through the ranks and within 3 years became a Regional Manager. I became an expert at opening new locations, creating sales and profits. These successes were achieved through the engagement of my team, excellent training systems and most importantly a focus on personal growth and development. I am privileged to have had the opportunity to train and develop so many great people into General Managers and Head Chefs. And I am honored to say that everyone I work with develops themselves into a better person and leader, but I just facilitate their ability to realize their potential. 

One key ingredient is ensuring Leaders were ready to persevere and focus their passion during those times when nothing is going right, and it seems that what you are going through is impossible.  I smile in these moments, knowing they will look back with pride on having work through the challenges and winning. If you are going to do anything worthwhile and meaningful in life you will experience this “stuck-ness”. Learn to embrace it and quickly shift to the creativity, grit and determination it takes to excel.

I use a transformative teaching style. The concepts are taught in a way where I create an experience that will help guide your future behaviour. I am personally invested in maximizing your engagement through my inspirations of; Believe in People, Live in Possibilities, and Thrive in Performance. 

The foundation to success I found in my youth has been refined into a system of building culture and engagement that I adapt to employees, managers, and owners. This system is transferable to other businesses, groups, organizations and teams.
